For Privatization of Prisons
People and companies who support the privatization of prisons argue that they are providing services that are beneficial for governments, and local economies. They also argue that these private prisons are run more efficiently than regular prisons and that they are saving taxpayers money by cutting down on costs.” The primary arguments supporting the privatizations of prison are purported cost savings of up to 20% annually due to lower wage and benefit costs for labor, lower procurement costs, and more efficient administration and operation.” ( ) These private companies would be a great decision if this is really true because by saving money your saving taxpayers’ dollars that can be used for another cause. “Private prison companies have argued that their prisons can be a quick fix to deteriorating local economies.”( ) This is another great attribute if this was true because it would help local residents and communities who are giving up their land for these prisons to also benefit from these companies’ profits. Private companies are also saying that at the very least “private prisons provide the same quality services that government prisons do-based on six independent quality comparison studies, rates of American Correctional Association accreditation, recidivism comparison studies, contract terminations, and prisoner and correctional officer lawsuits.”( ) If private prisons are at the very least the same as regular prisons then they should be allowed to continue running private prisons because it’s not losing anything, but it’s actually gaining profits and creates more room for prisoners.
