Statistical Analysis
State:
· Research Question- Does the economic and social status of a neighborhood affect a person’s perspective of the criminal justice system such as police officers, courts, and prisons. I will be comparing the Little Village neighborhood and the Lincoln Park neighborhood. I will measure this by handing out a questionnaire to the subjects with a number scale 1-5 with 5 being a positive attitude towards the criminal justice system and 1 being a negative attitude towards the criminal justice system.
· My explanatory variable is the economic and social status of the neighborhoods and my response variable is the scores of each subject.
· My Null hypothesis is that there is no difference in the attitudes of residents in the different communities of Little Village and Lincoln Park. My Alternative hypothesis is that there is a difference in attitudes among the two neighborhoods.
Null hypothesis: ᶙ1-ᶙ2=0 Alternative hypothesis: ᶙ1-ᶙ2=/ 0
Plan:
· Statistical Inference Method: Two sample t test and interval
· Data Collection Process: I will hand out 60 questionnaires, 30 in each neighborhood and have residents fill them out. I will then calculate both neighborhoods mean score and compare them with each other.
· Conditions for the inference method:
-Random: The subjects were not selected randomly so I will be cautious not to overgeneralize my results.
-Normal: Since each of my sample size is 30 the CLT rule applies so this distribution can be considered approximately normal.
-Independent: Each individuals response is independent of each other one response of a resident has no effect on the other residents response.
· Ethical Data Collection Precautions: Each individuals response will be confidential and when proposed the questionnaire they have the option to participate or not. And finally they will be given a brief explanation of the study.
